Postcard Poetry Social Project (ONGOING)
The following projects are built upon ekphrasis, anonymity, conversations, confessions, history, archivism, interstices, dreams, hours, minutes, seconds, and a pinch of salt: “Slingshots for a Giant” “Rocks” “Medium”.
Slingshots for a Giant
“The methodology grew rapidly like a Kalanchoe in season. I’d take the postcards as they came, sort of chronologically such that the weather or season would have as immediate of an impact as possible so I could truly stay in touch with the sender’s thread. In the call for submissions I explained that I could respond to what was written, the art they sent, or to both at the same time. The intention was that I would generate poems, purely, in an effort to connect to the person behind the object and explore the series of decisions the sender made. At no point was I ever trying to meet a quota in any regard, I just allowed the moment to highlight what parts inspired me the most. This led to using a lot of their language within my poems combined with random gems from stamps, copyrights, and words on the art print. These gems had a field day conversing with one another and the sheer range of that effect is evident in this collection.”
Rocks
Directly following the rhythm of “Slingshots”, ongoing project “Rocks” takes on culture, personal histories, and a reconciliation with childhood. (ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS)
Med i um
Relatively new branch of “Slingshots” focused on the materials and condition of submissions alongside the psychology that informed the piece. (ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS)
